Festival vision
Among others, there are a few things that we consider important when organizing and executing the festival. We hope it might help you decide to attend, and if not, we still want to ensure you are aware of them:
-
- We love blues music and its diversity (in styles and tempos) which shapes the diversity of the blues dance. We believe that exploring the different styles and tempos of blues music helps develop universal dance skills and allows you to become a better dancer in general. Let’s break together those misconceptions saying “Blues is only slow…”, “Blues is only this substyle…”, “Blues is only body-on-body sexy moves…”
-
- Blues has the ability to not only move your body, but also touch your soul. We believe that can only happen knowing its historical and cultural context. That knowledge can even lead us to think about our own values and definitely helps to be a better blues dancer (and hopefully person). We aim to support our lecturers in placing the lesson in a historical and social context and, if the schedule allows, we also organize talks about blues music, dance, and its history and culture.
-
- We prefer having a blues party in a bar. It can be packed and vibrant from the beginning; towards the end, you can expect slower tempos and maybe less lights. We will also have a ballroomin’ night in a suitable venue for that, but don’t worry, the after-party is in a bar 😉
-
- We want you to enjoy the party for as long as possible, so we’re planning not to start the classes too early. Also, If you’ve attended festivals before, you know that the Sunday party is always the highlight, and we treat it as such! Therefore, we suggest taking the day off on Monday so you can stay until the end! 🙂
-
- Sometimes it might be challenging for party pass holders (especially introverts) to meet new people and create new connections with others, especially if they primarily encounter other festival attendees only during the parties. That’s why we’ve arranged some special additional programs/activities included in party pass, providing opportunities to meet, socialize, and connect with other party pass holders.
-
- We strive to provide a safe and comfortable experience for all attendees. Please read our code of conduct and help us to create a safe and friendly event. If you find yourself in an uncomfortable or annoying situation, do not hesitate to contact our care team.

Classes will be held in Swing Wings Studio (Koliště 43, 602 00 Brno). Our studio has shared changing rooms and a bar with unlimited coffee and a limited amount of other snacks.
Activities during festival
Sometimes it might be challenging for party pass holders, especially introverts, to meet new people and create connections.
For this reason we’ve arranged some special additional activities aimed for party pass holders, providing opportunities to meet, socialize, and connect with others. Those activities occur during class time and include a city tour with wine tasting and a sunday brunch at Cafe JAGA. You will pay what you consume during both on the spot, but we need you to register for it.
Anyone including party pass holders can also register for either the Czech and Slovak folklore dance class or the traditional Roma dance class to get a peek into these cultures
During the lunch break there will be a sweet bar and an infinite amount of great coffee. Everyone is welcome to come and chill in the studio with a cup of coffee or a sweet treat. Or hey, why not both!
Dance extension – Traditional Roma dances
Experience the art of traditional Roma dances with Beňo Mirga, who has been dancing since the age of 6. As a 12-year-old (or should we say young?:)) he already became a dance teacher for the Roma dance ensemble Merci.
Building on this passion, Beňo went on to establish his own ensemble, SALUT ROMA, which has been on the scene for impressive 13 years.
They participated in the 2010 Czecho-Slovak Talent Show, wowing judges and securing a well-deserved spot in the semifinals!
No partner needed for this class.
Dance extension – Czech and Slovak folklore dances
Josefína Trusinová teaches classes at the folk dance school Folkit in Brno. As a child, she practiced modern gymnastics for 12 years. Fifteen years ago, she discovered folklore dances. After five years of dancing, she became a part of the professional folklore group VUS Ondráš, established by the Ministry of Defence of the Czech Republic. She was a member of Ondráš for five seasons, and in the final year, she served as an assistant to the dance group leader. As an external collaborator, she was also part of the project Chorea Bohemica and in National Theatre performing in ‘The Bartered Bride’ and ‘Goddess’.
Czech and Slovak folklore are beautiful parts of our national culture. During the class, we will practice basics that we will use in a short choreography created together.

Sep Vermeersch
Sep Vermeersch is a unique and committed creative. He’s a passionate jazz, blues & swing dancer and aspiring expert in the matter. When teaching he prefers holding space as a facilitator. It’s all about the ‘jazz’ process: historical context, personal development and expressing your own style while trying to appreciate these African American art forms as a guest. Sep also shapes and organizes events and festivals such as Upside Down, Big City Blues or LouisLou’s Dance Madness. Get to meet Sep and allow yourself to be shaken with love and groove.
Gas Fernández & Alba Mengual
Alba and Gaston are passionate about the Swing and Blues, the music, the culture, the dances that emerged from them (Blues, Lindy hop, Balboa, Vernacular Jazz). Their way of dancing seeks to express themselves, without forgetting the couple’s connection. They look for 2 individuals that shape one communication, a constant dialogue in the dance, with clear roles, but without a hierarchy. During the classes they look for the most natural way to dance to the music, highlight the importance of it and the culture behind it. They search for the essence of the movement in the rhythm.
Viktor Hristoskov
Victor is a dreamer and he believes the Blues dance is one of the shortest ways to make your dreams come true. He’s on his way of his blues journey being enthusiastic to develop the Bulgarian blues dance scene. As a teacher and a dancer he’s the happiest if he manages to inspire at least one more person to find her/his inner super dance powers and to enjoy the dance. Victor started dancing 14 years ago, coming from a ballroom and latin background, enriched his dance knowledge by taking classical ballet, contemporary and jazz classes. But… Blues and Lindy Hop are his new affair!
Pája Adamčíková
Pája believes that blues can be exactly as you need it to be – right here and now at this moment in your life. Infinite freedom for self expression, for sharing emotions, incredible freedom of movement limited only by our thoughts – that’s what she loves and feels about blues for more than 8 years. In classes she tries to give students inspiration to enjoy and experience dance as much as possible and help them find their own voice. So that they can shout out whatever needs to get out. Because blues is a remedy for blues…and much, much more.
