Teachers
We’re thrilled to announce the educators for 2027:
Nina & Anthony (Switzerland, USA)!
What we love about them: Nina and Anthony always seem to be dancing for their enjoyment rather than external gratification – be that in the middle of a crowd or during their spotlight in Strictly! They’re playful, wonderfully musical & groovy. Add to this their deep passion for purebal, and we’re sold!
What they say about themselves: Nina and Anthony have been sharing their passion and expertise with students around the world for nearly a decade. They are dedicated to creating a learning environment that emphasizes strong technique and in-depth historical knowledge in various dance styles making them excellent mentors and teachers. Their classes are thoughtfully structured to accommodate dancers of all levels, from beginner to advanced. Join Nina and Anthony in their journey to elevate swing dance through quality education and a genuine love for the art form.
Nina, a swing dance professional with over 25 years of dance experience, began her dance journey with Jazz Dance at the age of 7. With a degree in Art Education, she blends her artistic knowledge with her extensive dance experience to teach and inspire her students. Nina is an accomplished competitive dancer, regularly making finals and placing at events across the continent.
Her commitment to the art of swing dance, combined with her educational background, makes her a dynamic and influential presence in the dance community.
Anthony hails from the US and has been teaching Lindy Hop, Balboa, Shag, Charleston, Vernacular Jazz and other American jazz era dances for over 15 years. He holds several first place titles from prominent competitions such as – Rock That Swing Festival, Midwest Lindy Fest, Fog City Stomp, Lindy on the Rocks, Nevermore Jazz Ball, European Balboa Festival, Bal Love, The Snowball, and Valencia Balboa Festival – to name a few and was a member and choreographer for the aerialist Denver dance troupe “23 Skidoo”. Anthony now teaches across Europe emphasizing a blend of old and new ideas.
“Technique is not a cage that confines us, but a tool we use to clarify our communication and expression.”
Daytime activities
What is community if not sharing with others? Let us invite you to spend time with people creating our balboa scene!
In 2025, you were able to tour Katka’s favourite spots, explore musicality through your voice with Anička, and start your Sunday with pancakes at Lucka’s place.
In 2027, we’ll continue in a similar vein! Details TBA.
Values of our event
Building a community of care
As balboa dancers, we already share the same interests and practices. By bringing care into the mix, we’re learning to build a more honest, caring community – locally and as a whole.
Thanks to welcoming guests from different cities and contexts, we can get inspired and learn what makes a dance community strong – reaching back to the relationships we foster in day-to-day life.
Peer to peer learning
By a way of immersion in an open-level group, we’re polishing the skill of learning something new in every class, no matter the material or experience of others.
By listening to and caring for our dance partners, we’re empowering others in the community to become stonger dancers – together.
Safe space to explore
We do our best to create a prejudice-free environment, where balboa can serve as a space for play, self-discovery and connecting with others.
We do not tolerate hasassement of any kind and will have a safe space team ready to assist you whenever needed.
Please read our Code of Conduct before registration.
Love for balboa and swing
We cherish the dance, deeply enjoy swing music and are curious to see where the scene is heading.
We recognize that balboa is a part of tradition of jazz dance, black art form originating in Harlem, New York.
We thrive to be respectful guests in a culture that doesn’t belong to us.
