Get Cozy in Brno
Our beloved Dark Blue Swing Exchange is coming back after two long years, and in full glory. We will get back to what you always loved the most – a weekend full of good long parties and excellent life music and a typical local warmth and hospitality. We invited our favourite bands from Brno and Prague to enjoy what we all adore, a good dancing music: Heart of Dixie, Dudes of Ellington, Burn-o-tops, AppenDixie, Géri a Jaštěři. This time, we would like to focus even more on showing you Brno as we love it. We will invite you to our studio for a Brunch Party and Swing Wings Masterchefs will prepare a delicious brunch for you. We will take you to cozy, authentic cafés and in one of them, we will open the Friday event with a talk. On Saturday and Sunday, you can join our tour of local interwar cafés. There will be competitions and performances, too, and of course, stands with fashion to buy and homemade snacks.
There is one extra quality of the event and that is Dark Blue Week, as we invited Ukrainian dancers to enhance our community one week before and during the very event, too. We’d like to cover the costs of their week-long stay through fundraising and we’ll be thrilled if you decide to help us! Covid 19 restrictions
There are no restrictions on place against Covid 19 currently. Because we care about your and ours health, we would like to ask you to be considerate. If you will be ill or not feeling well and healthy, please consider your participation in festival.

Friday
Five O´Clock Tea
17:00 – 19:00
Let´s start the exchange easy and cozy in the oldest Brno café from 1937. Apart from enjoying their delicious desserts and coffee in an authentic functionalist interior, you can expect a talk with a discussion held in cooperation with our Ukrainian guests.
Entry to the event is free for all, consumption is at your own expense.

Light Blue Party
19:30 – 5:00
The opening party will take place in a theatre building with a bluesy character, cozy bar with a piano and two dancing venues. Two great bands will play for you at the main venue, AppenDixie from Prague and a local band from Brno, Dudes of Ellington. We will start the evening with a taster and follow up later with a Solo Jazz Competition. There will be a small blues venue for the blues souls as well. You can bet the party will not end before the sunrise.

Saturday
Brunch Party in the Kafka Studio
11:00 – 14:00
This event gives us a unique opportunity to take you to our community home. The cherry on top will surely be a magnificent brunch prepared by our Swing Wings Masterchefs. Apart from that, some other tenants of the studio will open their door, too. We will enjoy a concert of one of our student bands and there will be a chance to take part in an artistic workshop. The DJ will be there, as well as many blankets, pillows and lots of coffee, of course.

Some people say that Brno is the coffee capital of Czech Republic. Would you like to know where the roots of this phenomenon are? Our guide will take you around both existing and disappeared cafés of the interwar era. The tour will be in English and we will stop for a coffee at the end of it

Dark Blue Ball
19:30 – 5:00
The main party will take us back to the roots of the event, as it happened here, for the first time ever, nine years ago. It is located in the very centre of the city, has two bars and a fancy atmosphere. You will be able to listen to spectacular bands Heart of Dixie and Burn-o-tops, Mix & Match contest, dancing performance by local Rhythm Pilots and, of course, stands with fashion and food and a swing dance taster at the beginning of the evening. We won’t need to leave the venue until the very morning.

Sunday
Hangover soup
16:00-20:00
For some it may be a gentle goodbye, for others a perfect energy boost before the last party. Our beloved Hedvika will cook us some soup and mull some wine. A DJ will play good music for a small fast feet party.

We will transform a venue we regularly visit for a social dance into a ‘last, but not least’ party, as those happen to be legendary! A party band Géri a Jaštěři will be ready for us. There will be a chill zone and a Slow Feet Competition, too.

Code of conduct
We ask all participants to treat each other with respect and keep dancing social-floor friendly. Please be respectful and accept „no“ when asking for a dance. Be equally kind declining the dance.
To provide a more comfortable dance experience to your fellow dancers we ask all dancers to take care of your personal hygiene. If necessary, bring an extra change of clothes, deodorant or a towel.
We are expecting cooperation from all participants to help ensure a safe and comfortable environment for everybody. Event staff will be ready and happy to help and assist those experiencing harassment so they can feel safe for the duration of the event. We value your attendance and your safety.

Therefore below set code of conduct applies to all participants of Dark Blue Swing (organisers, teachers, DJs, band members, volunteers, dancers and all contributors). By attending Dark Blue Swing you confirm that you have read and understood the code of conduct. We kindly ask you to respect it.
Any harassing behaviour, such as:
- offensive comments related to gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race or ethnicity, nationality, religion,
- sexual images in public spaces,
- deliberate intimidation,
- stalking, following,
- harassing photography or recording,
- sustained disruption of workshops or other events,
- inappropriate physical contact,
- unwelcome sexual attention
- or other conduct creating hostile environment for other attendees
is inappropriate and will be treated with consequences.
As a part of Dark Blue Swing Exchange/Dark Blue Week, we’re welcoming a group of Ukrainian dancers and artists as our guests. Hateful comments towards Ukraine and Ukrainian people as well as spreading of misinformation regarding the war waged by Russia will be treated as harassing behaviour. If this makes you uncomfortable, please reconsider if the event is suitable for you.
If a participant engages in any harassing behaviour, the organizers are entitled to take steps to stop this behaviour, including warning the offender or expelling the offender from the event with no refund. Participants asked to stop any harassing behaviour are expected to comply immediately.
If you are being harassed, are a witness of any harassing behaviour, or have any other concerns, please contact the members of event staff immediately. Please don´t be afraid to ask for help or speak up for someone if you think they are being harassed.

Registration is closed. Tickets for the Saturday (CZK800) and Sunday (CZK 400) party are available on spot, only to pay cash in CZK.
